Monica Saunders, organiser of Climate Chat Hampton Hill on 30 April 2025, explains an exciting new community-led initiative focussing on positive changes people can make in their own lives and at a local level.

With us all leading such busy lives, it’s not surprising that we don’t always know what might be happening in our own area. Nor do we necessarily have the connections with others with whom we might otherwise share an interest or passion.
Climate Chat is an attempt to bring together our community to collaborate, to learn about projects happening on our doorstep and to consider how we might all make a difference through either getting involved (volunteering time, knowledge, skills) or making a change in our own lives.
At Climate Chat Hampton Hill on Wednesday 30 April 2025, we are delighted to welcome three outstanding local speakers:
- Art Gelling, Chair of Hampton Heath Friends, Remaking Hampton Heath
- Rachel Kan, Professional Expert in Sustainable Fashion and The Circular Economy
- Eve Risbridger, Real Junk Food Project, Reducing Food Waste and Food Poverty
We will hear how local projects are making a difference in our community rising to the challenges of Climate Change and protecting our environment, as well as how individuals might support or become involved in projects.
Climate Chat in Richmond Borough began at St Lukes Church, Kew a couple of years ago. Drawing on this experience, we decided to bring the initiative to Hampton Hill, which is the other end of the Richmond-upon-Thames Borough. Linking in with St James Church, we started to plan our event. Climate Chats can be held in any public space and as churches have signed up to the Church Eco Initiative, a scheme which includes community engagement and lifestyle, it seemed a great opportunity to partner with St James Church. Drawing on the theme of connections and collaboration, it’s an ideal opportunity to work together and we hope to attract a wide community to attend and ultimately, participate in projects.
The Hampton Hill event will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 30 April 2025 at St James Church, St James Road, Hampton Hill, TW12 1DQ.
