Bodmin Blog 2 – Kick Back in Bodmin!

By April 5, 2022October 13th, 2023No Comments

Adie Dove is founder and director of Bodmin based Kick Back Street Kids (KBSK) Performing Arts. In this second blog from Bodmin, Adie sets out her passion and mission for KBSK and why she welcomed the Bodmin Town Centre Charrette held in March 2022.

The Charrette process has demonstrated the importance of KBSK’s place in the community, brought to life our goals and shown us that our Vision can be achieved.”

My favourite part of KBSK is getting to witness every child succeed. I truly believe the power of the arts goes far beyond what the eye can see. When you provide a safe, loving and nurturing space with opportunity, the results are always remarkable. Whether it’s celebrating with young people after they have successfully auditioned to go away to professional dance colleges or witnessing young people who have battled with such high anxiety and over time discovered their voice and gained so much confidence that they are able to take forward in life, to achieve and excel in anything they set their mind to. I am so privileged to be able to witness this time and time again. Every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, every child deserves the right to access the arts.

“KBSK has changed my daughter’s life – it’s more than dance, I have my confident girl back!”

“I feel in control of my feelings – when things get too much I dance and feel happy.”

KBSK meets twice a week reaching over 100 families experiencing a wide range of complexities. We have a small bank of volunteers, teachers and a fundraiser that work tirelessly to ensure we deliver on every child’s right to access good quality performing arts training.

This year our young people aged 16-18 have successfully gained places into Northern Ballet School, London Studio Centre, Addict Performing Arts and SLP College.

Bodmin Town Centre Charrette

We were so excited to see the Charrette come to Bodmin – a town that could so desperately benefit from the process.  After seeing what the JTP team had achieved in other communities, we were sure that by welcoming the Charrette and sharing our own “Bodmin Town Centre Vision” we would be given opportunities to encourage a positive and cohesive community, a community that could sustain itself beyond expectation and thrive for its people.

I truly believe the power of the arts goes far beyond what the eye can see. When you provide a safe, loving and nurturing space with opportunity, the results are always remarkable.”

Throughout the Charrette process, the Charrette team showed the community what can be done and how hungry they were to get this to happen. Their extensive research and dedication to ensure that our community was involved and heard throughout the process will undoubtedly result in Bodmin having a stronger community supporting what really matters.

The Charrette team showed a patience and energy that matches our KBSK ethos, which has really given us the zest to continue to lobby for what is needed for the community, our children and families. The Charrette process has demonstrated the importance of KBSK’s place in the community, brought to life our goals and shown us that our Vision can be achieved.
